Hello fellow patriots and lovers of our country,
It’s time to talk about immigration. There is a great problem with the current immigration and naturalization laws. The laws that are in place right now are perpetuating the problem of illegal immigrant status, and also serving to rip apart American families. Furthermore, these problems can be easily corrected without undermining solid conservative principles.
Many people are not aware that the law prohibits illegal immigrants from returning to their country and applying for legal entry. Everyone screams the solution, not realizing that the government put a roadblock in the way making it impossible.
What’s the problem?
1. If an illegal immigrant wants to make things right, and correct the mistake he made by leaving the country to re-enter legally, he cannot come back to the US for 10 years.
2. If this immigrant has a US citizen wife and or children, then either the whole family is ripped away from the US for 10 years to go with him, or the family loses their husband/father for 10 years. Simply being married to a US citizen no longer means anything to the government.
3. The other alternative is to remain hiding as not to be ripped from your family for 10 years.
Everyone makes mistakes, but everyone also deserves the chance to correct them.
What’s a reasonable solution?
1. Secure the border, as to prevent more illegal crossing.
2. Encourage those who are illegally hiding to come out of hiding by eliminating the 10 year ban
3. Offer a change of status to those who come forward to correct their mistake
4. Ensure status change not be given to those in gangs, or who have committed violent crimes
5. Set a fine that must be paid for breaking the law by entering the country illegally
5. For a path to citizenship, set stipulations that match the heart of this great country
a. they must learn English
b. they must pay their taxes – including back taxes for each year they were here
c. until they are a citizen, they are not entitled to government benefits
Contrary to what the extremists say,
1. Many, if not most illegal immigrants do not have a record of committing any type of crime or detriment to society.
2. Many illegal immigrants pay their taxes through government issued W-7 #s, and pay their own medical bills.
3. Many illegal immigrants are a benefit to society by spending their money here in the US.
4. Many illegal immigrants learn English, marry US citizens, and contribute to society in many ways.
We should not deny the problems that have arisen due to illegal immigration, but we should not support laws that prohibit immigrants from doing the right thing. Let’s do all we can to support the strength of our country while supporting others’ right to correct their mistake. Let’s encourage our law-makers to help illegal immigrants correct their mistake, while taking care of the family as well. We should all be given freedom to right our wrongs.
