After viewing a commercial shown to 850 elementary school kids in Utah, I thought it time to write again.

Do I believe that our president should be able to speak to our children? Sure. He should. And our children should have the right not to listen. Both of those are freedom. Do I believe that movie stars should be allowed to tell our children what to do? Sure. They should have the right, as our children should have the right also, not to obey them.

When celebrities of our time are encouraging my child to “serve Barak Ombama”, and to “be a servant of the president”, it is troublesome, but not fatal. The beauty of the nausea that I felt when watching people pledging their loyalty to a public servant, is that we are still free to do so. My question though is this: For how long will we be able to “freely” do so?

The food for thought is, how many steps away from mandatory loyalty, forced service, are we? True, we are not communists today. I would like us to ponder the road which we are traveling – does it lead us there? Are we taking steps towards or away from Socialism? Towards or away from Communism? Toward s or away from individual freedom, to or from tyranny? Tyranny for the good of man kind is still tyranny.

I read an article written by Ashton Kutcher, and one of his statements reads, “A wise friend once told me that every time you serve someone else you take on all of their good traits. Maybe this explains the outstanding character of Barack Obama. He is a servant to this country and he has inspired me to adopt his spirit and to serve him with that dream of a great America in tow.”

It is my opinion that we take on the spirit as well as most of the attributes (good or bad) of one whom we serve. If I will submit myself to serve a man, and take on his spirit, may it not be who seeks to control, but One who set me free from control. May it not be one who hopes to change the world, but One who did change the world. May it not be a man who promotes “peace”, but the One who is Himself, Peace. May I not serve one who simply has some good traits, but one who was perfected in love. If I pledge my loyalty, duty, and service to a man, may it be the Man who gave up His life for mine.

I pledge to defend the Constitution, freedom, and individual liberty.

“It was for freedom that Christ died to set us free.” – Galatians 5:1
